What’s New in JEE Main 2025 Eligibility Criteria?

 

The National Testing Agency (NTA) has introduced significant updates to the eligibility criteria for JEE Main 2025:

1. Relaxation for SC/ST and PwD Candidates: Minimum aggregate marks in Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics for SC/ST and PwD candidates have been reduced from 50% to 40%.

2. New Category for Transgender Candidates: Transgender candidates can now appear under a new dedicated category, treated on par with other candidates.

3. Age Limit for Repeaters: The age limit for repeaters has been increased from 20 to 22 years, allowing more candidates to apply.

 

General Eligibility Criteria

 

1. Academic Qualifications:

~ Pass the 10+2 system final exam from a recognized board like CBSE, CISCE, or any state board.
~ Other accepted qualifications include:
-Two-year Pre-University exam.
-Joint Services Wing final exam.
-NIOS Senior Secondary School exam.
-Cambridge International A Level or IB Diploma.
-Three-year diploma approved by AICTE or state technical boards.

2. Subject Requirements:
~ B.Tech (Paper 1): Physics and Mathematics as mandatory subjects, with one additional subject (Chemistry, Biology, or Technical Vocational).
~ B.Arch (Paper 2A): Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics.
~ B.Plan (Paper 2B): Mathematics as a compulsory subject.

3. Age Limit:
~ No specific age limit is imposed.
~ Candidates who passed their Class 12 exam in 2023, 2024, or are appearing in 2025 are eligible.

4. Percentile Requirement:
~ General category candidates: At least 75% marks in Class 12 or top 20 percentile of their board.
~ Reserved categories (SC/ST/OBC): Minimum of 65% marks in Class 12.

5 Attempt Limit:
~ Candidates can appear in one or both sessions.
~ Maximum of three consecutive attempts allowed, including the year of Class 12 completion.

Candidates qualifying for JEE Main must rank among the top 2.5 lakh to be eligible for JEE Advanced. They can attempt JEE Advanced twice in two consecutive years following their Class 12 exam.
